Uninvited

I’m not
thinking straight
which is why
I should walk away
from this poem
that’s forcing me
to write it—
I know I shouldn’t
document
the way I’ve fallen
out of love
and right back into it
with a man so singular
and extraordinary
I could improve
nothing
about his existence—
but before I pull myself
away from this page
and from his life—
which I was never
invited into—
I need to thank him
for making
every color in the world
a little more vibrant
and for replacing
some of my darkness
with his light.
